Chapter Sixteen

NADIA

“What’s wrong? What happened? I came here as soon as I received your text,” Hayden rushed into the house, stopping before seeing me with the two feathers. “Is everything okay?”

I shook my head. “You haven’t told me everything about you. I want to know everything. Tell me your history. How did you become an Incubus? Was it your choice? Did you follow Jaxon into the darkness? Do you have any brothers or sisters? Well, aside from Mira. What are your parents like? I want to know everything.” I took a deep breath before announcing the rest. “I want to know everything there is to know. And I mean everything.”

Brat mode: Activated.

“Where is this coming from, Nadia? I have the rest of your lifetime and mine to tell you everything. No need to bring dear ole mom and dad into the mix. And I promise talking about Axel isn’t the best thing for us to do right now. I’m glad he didn’t show up to the summit.” He walked behind me wrapping his arms around me. “Want me to tell you everything?”

I nodded.

“Okay. I was born in the Summerlands. My brother’s name is Axel. He looks identical to me in all the ways that count. My parents are well known in Summerlands. We’ll discuss them later. They aren’t relevant to your little tantrum right now, I presume.” He took off his tie and jacket, placing them on a bar stool. While he unbuttoned his shirt, he continued, “I became an Incubus when I decided Axel had everything I worked so hard for. He was the chosen one. We had another brother. He’s no longer with us. We do not know what happened to him. He came to earth and met his demise.” His face went darker.

“I’m sorry to hear that. My brother is the only family I have next to my sons. I would have been so lost without him growing up. I can’t imagine losing him.” I added. Empathy was the only way I knew to relate. I wasn’t trying to one-up him. I meant what I said.

“So, when Jaxon was approached by my father to take over Underlands, I asked if I could be his protege, so to speak, and be next in line once Jaxon resigned or met his demise. Father was okay with it, so that’s the road I chose. I was asked which powers I wanted to inherit. I chose Incubus, because that’s essentially what the archangel was, and I wanted to be in a position similar to where I was in Summerlands.” He moved closer and took off his shirt. His abs took my breath away. The V accentuated when he took a deep breath. Off went his belt. Down went his pants.

“Continue.” I demanded. I couldn’t lose track of where we were.

“What else do you want to know, pet?” He asked bare in his boxers.

“Well, would you have stayed in Summerlands if the choice wasn’t there?” I asked.

“Part of me wishes I chose differently, but the other half knows I would not have been as satisfied.
